I have learned two things in this encounter: Save the game very often, and the 'edge of the map' isn't your standard 'invisible wall' it's a school of ghost leviathans that take no prisoners. Older posts say they do, newer posts say they don't, so I was inclined to believe that they don't - however, I've been marking off the ones I've killed in a photoshop file based on this map and just ran into a Ghost Leviathan that I definitely already killed. I looked up what had happened and discovered the crater's edge is the edge of the map and these creatures spawn to kill you for going to far. I'm doing a 'kill all Leviathans run' and have seen mixed comments online about whether they do or don't. I decided to reload the last save I had, which was before I had even started preparing for the deep sea excursion. My cyclops exploded with me in it, killing me instantly. STATS: It has 3000 health and both its attacks (The kick and the stomp) will deal 40 damage to the player. My cyclops had suffered massive damage, it was on fire, and I was surrounded by three glowing monstrosities with nothing but darkness around us. I told myself 'maybe the creatures only inhabit a certain depth and I can clear them if I keep going down'. In my panicked state I decided to continue diving down. Not only was the first leviathan seemingly unaffected by my decoy, but a second one appeared. I had built three creature decoys in anticipation of this, so I launched one and continued forward, hoping to outrun the monstrosity and repair the damage to my hull. You were going to encounter new creatures the further you went out into the ocean, that's part of the game.

I told myself one leviathan was no big deal. I paused the game, took a few deep breaths, collected my thoughts, and resumed the game. I then saw that there was a creature nearby, so I popped on the camera and came face to face with my first ghost leviathan. I thought that I'd find a bunch of cool wreckage and debris littering the sea floor, so I continued to dive and push forward. I then got the alert of approaching the crater's edge, an ecological dead zone. This was what I built the cyclops for, this is what I've prepared for the past two hours.

I passed 300m and started to hit a wall of darkness. I continued heading NE while continuing to dive. I spotted a couple of reaper leviathans and made sure to stay clear of them, making sure to use the keelside camera as often as possible. I plotted a course heading N/NE and took it slow. I had a strong sense of accomplishment and excitement pulsing through my body. I outfitted my cyclops and prawn suit with numerous upgrades, for I wanted to be able to take advantage of any resources I came across. Days of rations, water, beacons, storage containers, grow pots, etc. I spent two hours crafting days worth of supplies, for I wanted my first excursion into the deep sea to be a long one. I was ready to start exploring the deep sea. Once the Leviathan gets stuck in a wall- just avoid the fireball attacks and you can escape.So, I discovered the crater's edge today. If you do encounter one of these, find cover in tight spaces. They can swat vehicles with their forearms, and their long-range fireball attacks are fatal too. Even if you have the Reinforced Dive Suit on, a Sea Dragon Leviathan can instantly kill you by swallowing. It is the third-largest aggressive creature in the game and fifth largest overall.

One can be found lurking around the base of the mountains island. This monstrous sea creature is second only to the Sea Emperor Leviathan in terms of size and strength. The Reaper Leviathan is an aggressive leviathan class fauna species usually found swimming in large open areas, such as the Crash Zone, Dunes, and Mountains. 2 of the Sea Dragons are in the Inactive Lava Lake, while 1 enjoys the Lava Lakes all alone. In BZ, leviathan encounters are rare, with the only somewhat dangerous one being the shadow leviathan, which still takes 3 hits to kill you, and is pretty passive for a while after attacking you. The Sea Dragon is the largest Aggressive Leviathan in Subnautica, and it’s a good thing that there are only 3 of these in the game. Reapers can 2 shot you and your vehicle (not to mention there’s way more reapers than chelicerates), and ghost leviathans can frick you up just as well.

Damage: 1 Bite = Instant Kill For Player & 10-20% Praw Suit health, 1 Swat = 40% Player health, 11% Praw Suit health, and 250% Cyclops health, Fire Breath = 12-72% Player health, 3-19% Prawn Suit health, 500% Cyclops health.
